UN and Arab League Envoy on Syria Visits Moscow
On March 24-27, 2012, the UN-Arab League’s joint special envoy on Syria Kofi Annan while he was on an official visit to Moscow together with his entourage stayed at the PRESIDENT-HOTEL.
In accordance with his program Mr. K. Annan had a discussion with the Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Syria which he characterized as a very good one.
He also was received by Russian President Dmitry Medvedev who stressed the importance of envoy’s mission because in his opinion this is perhaps Syria’s last chance to avoid a bloody and protracted civil war.President Dmitry Medvedev promised that Russia will give envoy any possible assistance at every level and in all areas in which Russia can provide support. Russian President expressed high hopes that envoy’s work will yield a positive result.
Mr.Kofi Annan thanked President Dmitry Medvedev for a possibility of discussing the issue of Syria and confirmed that in his work he is going to count on Russian support and advice to put an end to the conflict.
